Breaking Barriers to Clean Energy Access

plug-in solar for those who need it most

What are we doing?

We’re working to pass a bill to get no-cost plug-in solar into the homes of those who need it most: low income residents and those on fixed incomes.

In the proposed legislation, community based organizations and labor unions distribute the plug-in solar, removing barriers so that people who are struggling to afford their energy bills can get immediate relief.

Why are we doing it?

&

Skyrocketing energy costs

New Jersey is experiencing the highest energy price spikes in the nation. For those who are struggling, that pressure can  be overwhelming.

Plug-In can help

Plug-in solar is a portable, low-cost way of helping families with energy. bills. in September of 2026, Gov. Sherrill signed legislation authorizing it in NJ.

Unequal access

Plug-in systems pay for themselves many times over; but a price tag of a few hundred dollars can put them out of reach for those who need relief the most.

NJ Leading the Nation

This program would be the first in the country to address critical access barriers for low-income communities.

A mid-sized plug-in system Saves about $100/year on energy costs.

Stay in the loop

We expect to see the bill introduced soon, to run in early 2027.
